Protecting President-elect Donald Trump is costing New York City $1 million a day, and it’s going to cost the taxpayers of this country even more.

“This is a very substantial undertaking. It will take substantial resources,” said New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.

If the Secret Service rents two floors in Trump Tower to provide security for the future First Lady and the couple’s ten-year-old son, Barron, that cost will likely skyrocket and the nation’s taxpayers will foot the bill — paid directly to the president-elect. Trump plans to split his time between the White House and his home in NYC, adding even more cost. Mr. Trump’s many additional family members will also receive Secret Service protection. Even if Mr. Trump gives up the presidential salary of $400,000 — which he may not be able to do by law — it would be a drop in the bucket.

It is important and necessary to protect the President of the United States and his family, but is there a more fiscally responsible way to do it? What do you think?
